Extraction and Preservation in Florham Park, NJ

We at Helix dental have had many patients over the years who have needed extractions. There are many reasons for this. One person may have crowded teeth; another may have impacted wisdom teeth, while other people may have gum disease.

Whatever the reason, our dentist will do a thorough exam and talk with you about any questions or concerns you may have.

Extraction methods explained

There are several extraction methods available today. The most common methods for removal are:

  • Simple extraction: This is a method often used to remove teeth that are visible above the gum line. The dentist loosens the tooth and removes it using forceps.
  • Surgical extraction: This is similar to the simple extraction method but is sometimes required if the tooth is impacted. The dentist makes an incision in the gums and then removes the tooth. In some cases, the tooth may need to be cut into several pieces to be removed.

Tooth replacement options explained

If you are missing a tooth, there are a couple of options to restore your smile. Dental implants are the most natural solution. They provide a permanent, stable tooth replacement that restores the look and function of your smile. However, dental implants aren’t right for everyone. If you have severe gum disease or a weakened jawbone, you may not be a candidate for dental implants. In this case, a dental bridge may be a better tooth replacement option.

A dental bridge is a prosthetic tooth that fills the void left by a missing tooth. It attaches to the remaining teeth on either end, essentially “bridging” the empty space. A bridge can be supported by dental implants or teeth that have been prepared for support. We will help you decide which type of bridge is right for you.

A partial denture is another option to replace a missing tooth. It uses a prosthetic tooth attached to a gum-colored base. A partial denture only replaces some of the teeth, so a patient who has several missing teeth may need a full denture instead.

Implant-supported dentures: These dental appliances are removable and anchored by dental implants. They offer excellent stability and strength, thanks to the implants beneath them. They also prevent jawbone deterioration and keep it from shrinking.
